HO3-- WEEK 39
-- we enjoyed being back in Omaha for Easter Sunday! Our Omaha family is starting to expand and it is so fun to see these little kiddos on a regular basis! We enjoyed Easter Brunch with some of our extended family and then a few hours with my parents before heading back to Grand Island to some snow (bleck!). These next few weeks are going to get busy for us as I prepare for boards and then we start moving to Holdrege! The biggest challenge will be prioritizing everything appropriately and not by what tasks are the most entertaining (i.e. shopping for new living room furniture or dreaming about this baby!). However, we did make some fun purchases this week like the window coverings for the main floor of our new house! We fell in love with an $$$ option, so we've had to wait to see how all of our other expenses fell before we went forward with the order. I was starting to think I may have to hang sheets over the windows the first few months we lived there as we saved a little more cash. But thankfully, we withheld more money for our taxes this year and buying a house worked in our favor so we didn't owe extra taxes this season - leaving room for window coverings! You know you've made it to adulthood when window coverings are something you get excited for..

HO2-- WEEK 47
-- celebrated Easter with T's family on Saturday and my family on Sunday! We always enjoy being with our families (and the great food!) but I'd forgotten how much fun it is to do an Easter Egg Hunt with the younger kids! I made sure I let everyone know that those cleverly hid eggs were my idea. My family's meal was also a lot of fun with a few new faces around it (a few friends & extended family!). We are loving the holidays even more now that we've moved (at the time, I wondered if the drive would be irritating, but we still love having protected time together so it hasn't been much of a bother!).
-- helped T's mom move in to her new place! We actually made it work before we celebrated Easter - and thanks to friends from church - we had the trailer unpacked in under 1 hour! I don't know if we are much help - but we love to share our opinion and help with each step! We are so glad she is nearby!

SI-- WEEK FORTY
Whew! What a busy week. But first, Happy Easter everyone! I spent the last 28+ hours at the hospital so I missed out on most of the Easter festivities with my family. As much as I wish I didn't have to miss out on time with them, I do feel it's a great privilege to do what I do. Unfortunately people are still sick on holidays! I'm feeling a little drained as this rotation has less overnight call but the days are longer/busier/more stressful. I also set a new personal record for least sleep on a call night (just a quick 20 minute nap at 4:30am!). One positive to this month is that, according to my iPhone, I walk way more than I do on other rotations (7+ miles yesterday alone!). I totally believe it! Nebraska Medicine is a combination of a few buildings of patient rooms so you spend the day scrambling between them all. It seems like the patient you need to see is always across the hospital :) I've been craving more exercise (I spend way too much time in a computer chair charting!) so this is the perfect start.
Today I got home from work in the early afternoon, grabbed a few hours of sleep, and then had a spontaneous dinner outside with my family:

It was the perfect post-call night: family, good food, fresh air, and games (Mom and I were definitely the canasta champs!). I decided that Easter is my new favorite holiday for browsing other's family pictures. Besides Christmas cards, Easter seems to be the next best day for coordinated family photos (all dressed in their Sunday best!). I'm loving browsing through everyone else's family pictures on Instagram :)
Finally, a few more fun pictures from this week! Travis was a good sport this week -- he agreed to take the city bikes for a ride over the pedestrian bridge and along the river. We also caught the Husker v. Creighton baseball game in Lincoln, and had a game night with friends:
Nebraska is having an absolutely gorgeous spring and it has been the perfect balance to my long hours. I feel like I've been whining a lot about my hours - but it's been a big transition for me! I'm definitely looking forward to May and having the month off to play! Love you all!

Krista

M3-- WEEK FORTY TWO
HOW WE EASTER
We celebrated today with a late lunch at my parent's house. On my plate you'll find apple salad/smoked turkey/stuffing/roasted vegetables/mashed taters/dinner roll and don't miss the pineapple pretzel fluff on the side! That was a new recipe for our family. T and I also made two new kinds of homemade ice cream: fresh strawberry and blueberry pie. The blueberry pie was easily my favorite of the two.
I fell in love with cooking & baking in my parent's kitchen -- so it is always fun to back and preparing meals in it! Even if it's just minor assembly of a salad I prepared at home..
After eating, we enjoyed the gorgeous spring weather with some ping-pong in the backyard! It's a tradition to play some "run-around" ping-pong. Then we ended up in doubles -- T hates me as his partner. I am not very good and I don't take it very seriously.. This picture is perfect. This is exactly how I remember the games -- T "coaching" and taking it very seriously while I giggle and only sometimes focus. T probably does deserve a handicap of a few points when he has me on his team..
We were able to watch the oldest sibling's soccer game (T kept J busy with their own little soccer game). Then we had a delicious ham/steak/cheesy potato/pumpkin bar/grilled pineapple lunch. We ended the day with an Easter egg hunt for the 3 cousins and, as you can see above, J eventually caught on to the game!
I'll end this Easter Sunday post with my favorite church video right now (you may have seen me post it on Facebook as well):
Have a great week!

M2- WEEK THIRTY TWO
I am just loving this morning! I am awake early in my kitchen doing one of my favorite things.. baking! So, my house smells fabulous, the windows are open with fresh spring air pouring in, it sounds like Spring outside with the birds chirping away, and Pandora is playing all the right music. Today is fabulous. This afternoon we will attend church (I'm one of the speakers today) and then bring a cake (yay for trying new recipes!) over to my parent's for an Easter dinner. What are your plans?
The big fun from this week was putting the kitchen back together! The process of re-staining our cabinets was actually quite simple, but it did take some space.. and some time to dry between coats. Having our kitchen disassembled actually didn't slow down our cooking. This week we ate this soup to use up some leftover spinach, made a quick skillet lasagna, tried a new broccoli dish, and oh darn, just had to make some ice cream to use up some left-over half-n-half.
Other (not nearly as exciting happenings)...
+ I had my blood drawn so my insurance will "give me" $400 in my HSA
+ We're studying advanced cardiac life support in school. i love it.
+ I learned how to preform a knee aspiration on a model
+ I also fake-delivered a baby with a birthing mannequin
+ T and I watched Smash (and a lot of basketball) this week
+ And I studied outside in the sun as much as possible!
Well, it's time to go get pretty and to ice this cake! Have a fabulous day!

Easter 2012
So this Saturday was a test Saturday for me. It was also the first test for our new class, neuroscience. That means that this week was a lot long nights studying and a neglected house. The fridge was pretty bare and the piles of laundry were pretty high when we started this weekend. How do they look now? Well, the fridge is now stocked thanks to our new lovely Costco membership, but I must admit, the laundry is still piled high. I can tackle that tomorrow night.. right?
Some of you have noticed that there haven't been many recipes posted of late. Yep. That's my bad. Poor T and I have been scrambling for "real meals" for the past few weeks. Typically we eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegis... and we had neglected to go to the store for a while... so that means our fridge was pretty bare. Our go-to meals like sandwiches and salads weren't even an option. But, whatdoyaknow, if you starve T long enough he makes fantastic dinners. I figure if I document it here, then he can't deny his kitchen skills later ;)
The other night he pan seared chicken breast and made some wild rice to go with it.. and luckily I grabbed a cell phone picture for evidence:
We have some good news to share! The four-wheeler is officially fixed and running! We spent Saturday night with some friends at our family's cabin enjoying the fabulous (humidity-free, bug-free) season of spring! It is so pretty and green out there! Plus there are these super pretty purple flowers (well, probably weeds). We enjoyed a typical camp dinner around the fire (camp dinner= hotdogs, chips, and dip) and discussed the legend of Big Foot. I even learned some astrology. Too fun.
We started Sunday at church like usual. Today was my turn to teach the women's class. They are so fantastic! I love that I leave each lesson learning even more from them then I did in all my preparation. If you ever want to meet some awesome women that have life figured out, you should come with me some afternoon. After church we headed to my parent's for lunch and some run-around ping pong. Its our family's favorite:
Sorry you will have to turn your head sideways.. but here is a peek at our game in action:
Our fabulous Easter didn't stop there! We also got to see T's wonderful mom and spent some time catching up with her. We are so blessed to have (1) such great family and (2) such great family so close to us. Life Is Good.
Oh! I almost forgot to tell ya'll that I found out where I'll do my Rural Care Block this summer. UNMC sends us to a clinic/hospital outside of Lincoln and Omaha for 3 weeks this summer. I found out I am heading to Syracuse, NE right after school ends this May. I am super excited to get out of the classroom and start to apply this knowledge to real people. I can't wait to see what being a physician is like in a smaller town. Being 60 minutes from home is also a nice perk compared to way, way, way out west.
Other than that, we've been dreaming of summer house projects and looking forward to more time together once school settles down in a few weeks. How did you celebrate Easter? Are you also enjoying this fabulous spring weather?

We play that after three errors you have to sit down. I played exceptionally poor today so I spent a lot of the game watching from this comfy chair:
