Garage-sale shopping with Gigi and Pap pap! |
This week...
-- we made a couple trips to Omaha for the first Pro- Volleyball Federation Championships. T and I have fully enjoyed getting some kid-free time and some entertainment as this stage of parenting/careers feels non-stop at times. We also got to be in Omaha during my Mom's birthday which we celebrated with a luxurious brunch at Memoir. The kids had a blast with their grand parents with a bonus- the neighbors had a crew at their house taking down their 40ft + trees. It was our first night not doing bedtime for the kids- EVER!
-- Cal and I parked next to a large hydrangea shrub while we waited for school pickup. I let Cal get out of his carseat and then eventually the car and he spent his time "returning" the fallen flowers to their original place. He felt quite accomplished as he chucked each flower back into the shrub as if that would give it continued life.
-- Elle wants to be a "Ninja Kid". There is a family on YouTube who make videos doing different athletic competitions - many of which are gymnastics based. She found a "music video" on their channel and in their parody video, they say "Come join us!" so Elle heard the invitation and immediately asked if we could go to their state. She rationed outloud that they could teach her more skills (when I suggested she should continue to work hard at her gym time..) and is confident she can simply choose to join them. We had a nice talk about videos and how they may seem real-time but can actually be recorded in the past as well as "trust but verify" especially with internet education.
-- Cal has caught on to Elle's antics and will interrupt a conversation to urgently ask "How do you spell.. PICKLES!" or whatever object is in his sightline. He will quickly follow it up with another spelling question to keep our attention. Though he is quite cute when he sits and pretends to teach or read books outload..
-- Elle spent her afternoon in a ruffled, strappy swimsuit top and gold sparkled tights as pants. She is convinced she doesn't like shorts and she REALLY doesn't like dresses. Expect to church- and then the more feminine the better. She still likes her white tennis shoes but she is not often shy with her pattern or color choices. We're trying to "let her be little" and choose her own clothing when reasonable - but she tests our limits on this parenting principle..
