This week..

— I’m trying to caught back up on blogging! As I lay in bed more awake than I should be thanks to an afternoon nap and too much caffeine, I figured I have no excuse to skip this week’s blog! Last Sunday night we got home late after spending the night with friends in a nearby town. Their community did an early 4th of July celebration so we watched fireworks in their backyard after an evening of kids on the trampoline with water balloons and souped-up children’s vehicles. They chased firefly’s and ate their weight in potato chips. Cal has always been drawn to babies so he was entertained with the big kids toys as well as the twin 9 month olds. When the fireworks actually started, both of our kids ended up inside due to the noise and instead befriended our friend’s dog.

— Cal jumped off our furniture a record number of times. He is very content cycling through dozens of “BIG jump!”. He asked for more carrots specifically when we were eating a chicken-pot-pie type meal and quickly his bowl was replenished from everyone else’s. He is completely charming/magnetic and it is hard to not completely spoil him!

— Elle has decided to work towards skipping her afternoon nap since she won’t have one when she starts Kindergarten this fall. She is very capable of playing through the afternoon without sleeping but the evening gets dicey. She starts picking on Cal and trying to push our buttons. Plus, this girl is built like her mama - she is a night owl and I’m would much  rather sleep-in then get up early. It’s going to be a tough transition for the whole family this summer when the evenings can be so beautiful! We enjoyed the weekend with my parents and Elle has proven herself to be a very nice dinner companion. While Cal needed multiple excursions from the table for everyone to be able to eat - Elle sat nicely and drank from her adult drinking glass and colored her kids menu. It’s a fun stage of parenting to be able to get out and about more easily!
