This week…

— Cal’s most recent joy is opening the shoe closet and walking around the kitchen in another family member’s shoes. You never know which pair he’ll pick! Elle’s and dads seem to be the favorites (Elle’s are bottom shelf so definitely most accessible!). Cal also *sarcasm* blesses us with another “wide awake for a few hours overnight”. Thanks fully it was towards the end of the week but we spent a few hours trying to coax him to sleep in his room and then finally with the lights dimmed in his playroom. We think it’s when he’s teething (he has 4 erupting right now) but we don’t always catch on quick to give medicine  because he still wakes once EVERY night and he doesn’t seem uncomfortable or even irritable during an episode. One of these times will be his last and we won’t even know it until we look back. Hoping we age out of this phase fast! Cal still loves to take care of a babydoll, throw everything (including over church pews) and unpacks MY kitchen daily.

— Elle had a parent/teacher conference where they raved about her knowledge and obedience (did I already mention this?). We went with T’s extended family to the country club and Elle ordered two entrees of the kids menu but then ate 1/3rd of my steak. It was a welcomed improvement from her 104 degree fever from strep throat the day before. I picked her up from daycare and she laid in my office while I saw my last few patients of the afternoon. I left work, got Elle, got Motrin/blanket/new toy, and got back to work in exactly 30 minutes! I’m blanking on funny moments that aren’t related to bodily functions - but she was especially sweet when we walked out of a restaurant and happened to see a Santa for someone else’s Christmas party. Cal quickly knelt right in front of him and Elle came up behind him, put her arms around him, and prompted him “remember how much you like playing with my tablet? Maybe you would like one of your own!” when Santa asked Cal what he wanted. Her screen time recently is about 50/50 The Grinch and YouTube videos of people making simple ink drawings. She is VERY excited for Christmas as you would expect. She does not forget to prompt us to hang our nightly ornament (we have an advent calendar of the Christmas story with an ornament for each day). I’d like to get her to the store to “Adopt a Family”  so she can be involved in some giving besides neighborhood cookie trays.

xo,

Krista
