This week..
— we had our first “come get your kid he has a fever” call from daycare. Thankfully it was within the hour of when we normally do pickup. These kids are tough- but T and I are sure sick of their snot and coughs. We had no idea we would go through so many bottles of Children’s Ibuprofen in this stage of life.
— Cal continues to communicate best with gestures (he’ll pull his hands apart when he asks you to open a package of M&Ms or point to a room and light up when you verbalize the action he’s trying to communicate) but he is able to imitate some new words and if you ask a question he can often give you one syllable of what he’s thinking.T dressed him in Christmas jammies and he will clearly imitate ho ho ho - though his only has 2. He has also started to react to situations saying “oh my!”. He will scoop up a too-large bite of ice cream and exclaim “oh my!” before he attempts to eat it. Then, when some falls, he will stop what he is doing to wipe up the spill and will throw away the napkin before he takes another bite. But don’t get convinced he doesn’t make messes, he slipped on the bottom step of his stander and every since macaroni noodle in his bowl scattered over the floor. He also tried to fill a bowl with Teddy Grahms and it overflowed on to the floor when he poured the entire box. Juice boxes also get the best of him until after the first drink.
— Elle finds herself in trouble because of her mouth (“well then I’ll never clean up my plate if you don’t turn on my TV show” sorts of threats) but is also a total joy to explore the world with. She is thinking about Santa’s sleigh and if there is a size limit on what she asks for because of it. She is also willing to fabricate a story on the spot so she can have a turn “reading”. She brought all of their stuffed animals to the living room and set up a zoo. Then she came with “her baby” and adopted a few pets. Except she wouldn’t leave the zoo because she was demanding someone teach her what each animal eats so she could safely care for them at home. However, if we let her, she would spend all day watching videos of kids playing with their dolls on YouTube. This winter is going to be tricky to keep her engaged and not abuse screen time!
