This week..
-- we made lots of memories! I mean, when do we NOT with kids this age? We had some dear friends from Holdrege visit us. They made it to our house before we were home as we were on a bike ride and Elle jumped off her bike to "pick wish flowers" aka dandelions to share with her friends. She's been wishing for playhouses and believes that she will get a playhouse for each dandelions she attempts to blow. Now she will giggle and wonder outloud "what she will do with so many playhouses?!" We spent the day catching up and the kids had a blast. We brought out some sidewalk chalk paint and Elle made a royal mess on the front step and splattered on the house. The kids all had to have a hose bath and change clothes before we continued the playdate.
-- the kids had their official birthdays. We can now talk in years ---> we have a 4 year old and a 1 year old! We did our celebrating Easter weekend but they have still had a few cards and gifts come in which has extended the celebration. Elle has said more than once "Well of course!! I'm fourrrr!".
-- was their last week at home. Tomorrow they start daycare! Elle is super excited as we've been talking up the preschool aspect. She does great with her class at church but she did have a few shy weeks. It will be a big change for both kids but I think Cal is the least prepared. He's right on the edge of changing from bottles to cup, over to cow's milk, etc. So it may be a tricky time to navigate some of the details. We will be starting our day earlier than we have been which will also be challenging but worth it in the long run to keep things routine for the kids.
-- we made a flower bed around the mailbox (which turned out to be fairly challenging due to all the tree roots that we didn't expect) and finished placing mulch in the existing flower beds. We have started to remove the grass around the trees in our front yard so we can add flower beds around them too but it has been a super slow process. Elle had a blast picking out flowers at the nursery and, of course, noticed that a few of the ones she picked out somehow didn't make them home with us..
xo,
Krista
