M3-- WEEK THIRTY SEVEN

Hm... what to blog about this week...

Well, I had one set of interviews for the accelerated residency programs! You are probably wanting to ask "How'd it go?" Good! I think... Overall I don't think I put my foot in my mouth about anything! So that's good! I think I demonstrated some of my strengths.. but I've been replaying the interview over and over in my head and there are definitely things I would change if I had the chance. My biggest regret is not taking the opportunity to explain how serious I am about working in a smaller town. These programs are geared towards training rural docs and I don't think I explained my intentions/passion very well. At the time I felt like a "professional" wouldn't I gush.. but looking back I think I was too reserved with my responses. I'm crazy-passionate and I should have let them know that about me! These programs know almost nothing about us from our applications - so whatever you want them to know you must share in the interview. I think I got a little distracted over-thinking what I wanted the residency programs to know about my character or resume or w/e and didn't put enough emphasis on my excitement for the programs. It was a lot to fit into a 30 minute interview! (My interview was 15 minutes short because my interviewer was late...) Plus it was a little awkward/confusing when the interviewer asked be about the other program (this person is involved in both of them). There is one program that I think would be a better fit for me than the other - but how honest should you/can you be in an interview? Anyway.. these are all little things that I can't change now! One thing I don't regret was my new suit that I wore - it was super comfortable!

Excuse the terrible quality mirror reflection selfie please..
I'm glad I journaled a little bit about my interview here because it's a big part of my medical school story - but my favorite part of this week was all the fun social things we did (especially outdoors!):

+ Monday, we grabbed a couple friends and their cute little one and had a picnic in the park. T and I threw football and ate pretzel bread+ham+muenster sandwiches, fresh fruit, & oreos.

+ Saturday afternoon T took a group of boys to the cabin and apparently had a blast! The report I got was that they ate pizza, shot blue rock, and spun cookies on the four wheeler.

+ I spent Saturday afternoon with the "front row" group (my friends from medical school who I sat by during lectures the first two years). A friend grilled burgers for us and we sat around sharing stories from our clinical rotations --  always fun!

+ Saturday night and Sunday morning were special meetings for church where we met with everyone in Omaha (>3,000 people are invited!). We had a handful of speakers that spoke to us on a variety of different topics. One of the things it has me pondering most is "how to use social media meaningfully". Good stuff!

+ After the meeting Saturday we grabbed Orange Leaf with our friends (who are moving in May - sad day!) and listened to the (disappointing) end of the Creighton game on the radio in our car. <-- That shows how much faith T has.. he even gives up watching the big games!

+ I was running late Saturday so my pasta salad sat uneaten in my fridge -- that prompted another get together! We had some friends over tonight and served it with a new pulled pork recipe. T and I always talk about having friends over but we let silly things get in the way. We were so happy we made it happen today!

This upcoming week is just working in the Adult Crisis Unite -- no interviewing until the following week! We are hoping to continue to get outside in the nice spring weather. Enjoy your week!

Krista
