M3-- WEEK TWELVE

It's 10:50pm and I'm just getting settled back in at my new home-away-from-home in Grand Island. That means that this is going to be a record short post (which is unfortunate because I have a lot I could journal about!). But I absolutely HATE starting the week tired.. so I suppose something on the blog is better than nothing...

MONDAY
This was supposed to be the day that I saw my first vaginal delivery. A patient I had seen in clinic was to be induced and I was going to spend the day following her labor. Well.. things didn't quite go as planned.. Baby was born by c-section at 10 or 11pm that night (still amazing to be a part of!). Obviously healthy baby and healthy mom is absolutely the most important factor.. but I'm still anxiously awaiting be part of a vaginal delivery!

TUESDAY
I started rotating with a different doctor in the clinic. Her patients are mostly pregnant/postpartum/well women and kiddos. I've thoroughly enjoyed her practice (no offense men! But you aren't always the most pleasant patients..)

WEDNESDAY
Wednesday started like a normal work day: round at the hospital shortly after 0700 then head to clinic. However, I ended Wednesday in Omaha! T and I were able to celebrate his mom's birthday with dinner and a show :) We were able to see a soft-opening of Les Miserables at the Omaha Community Playhouse because T's mom is an employee at one of the big sponsors of the show. It was so well done - you should definitely get tickets and go! Plus, one of my besties from high school is in the show. I totally should have taken a picture with him afterwards - FAIL.

THURSDAY
I woke up basically in the middle of the night so I could make it back to Grand Island (2.5 hours) when clinic started. Around York my eyes started getting pretty bugged from the constant headlights so I took a 10 minute nap in my car at a rest stop. Gotta love cellphone alarms! It didn't help that the radio stations are subpar around that area as well. But I made it to clinic in plenty of time and had another awesome day of learning!

FRIDAY
After clinic I headed back to Omaha again. It was so necessary. Wednesday was awesome but it made me homesick to have that teaser. I also stopped to do a little retail therapy along the way. T has been talking about adding a blue suit to his rotation so I just couldn't resist. He is such a champ wearing suits 7 days a week!

SATURDAY
What a busy but awesome day! I started the day with a meeting at church with some of my favorite people. What a great way to bring some needed perspective in the middle of this crazy back-and-forth rotation. I then crashed at my parent's house for the beginning of the Husker game before T got home from work. T and I then beat the crowd and went to Street of Dreams early Saturday evening. I absolutely love houses - mostly because I love families - and I love dreaming about what a perfect space may look like for us someday. Although I love the design of these fancy houses.. it's really more about the function for me. Where will we want to spend our time someday? Could I picture our future family eating at an island like that in the kitchen? Or at something more formal? Would we get joy from spending time out on a covered deck? Or would we be just as happy in our living room? Those are the sorts of thoughts I had as we walked through the beautiful homes. T is totally in love with pools (I blame that on one of his high school jobs helping repair & service pools). I loved one house that dedicated the whole 2nd story to the kids. Are you shocked I didn't mention kitchen design? It's because I already have a dream kitchen in mind. It's pretty stellar. :)

SUNDAY
After church, T and I spent the evening at my parent's to celebrate my birthday. We had - at my request - a fruit torte. muy delicioso. I ate three pieces :) The weather was gorgeous so we sat and told stories before fitting in a few games of run-around ping pong. Thanks mom for an awesome birthday celebration!

Oh ya! I forgot to mention that I chopped my hair off on Saturday. I totally took a picture of the pile of hair on the floor but it's sort of gross. I'll spare you that one. I am definitely looking forward to sleeping in a few extra minutes each morning since I have less hair to wrangle. Here is my attempt at a selfie this morning to debut the new do:

Hope you have a great week and enjoy this beautiful fall weather!

xo,
Krista
