School
We've been learning about the genitourinary system and are now studying kidneys. The story of this year is tumors, tumors, tumors. I had no clue that so many tumors were possible in the human body! Or that I would ever be able to tell them apart on microscopic slides- but I am getting there!
This week we have another OSCE (the test where we do a history/physical exam/note on a hired "patient"). This semester's OSCE isn't nearly as involved as the last one. This one is a focused history + physical + SOAP note and they help us out because the patient can only have one of like eight problems. So no gigantic checklist of questions this time.. just what is pertinent. Regardless, it is still super nerve-wracking for me. At this point in our career we are superstars at sitting at a computer and picking the correct answer from a list, but this demands quite different skills. I've done well in the past, so let's hope this one also works itself out!
Life
Oh this week was fun! (outside of a million study hours like usual.) A close friend had her baby this week and I had the opportunity to visit her the day she got home from the hospital and hold sweet, handsome Baby CW. I don't think anything beats that.
Friday night one of our best friends, K, stopped over for dinner on her way through town. She is headed half-way around the world in two weeks for a new job, so she was making her rounds. T and I felt special to be on the list of people-to-see before she left! K and I go way back- back to beginning dance classes and dance team tryouts.. middle school sleepovers and high school house parties. Do you have a friend like this? One that every time you get together you realize how much you missed them? K is that girl. It was so good to see her, but it sure made me sad to see her leave! I really am going to try harder to keep in touch this time (I am so terrible at that!) Be safe and have a blast K!
Now we are headed to church and then to visit family for a cousin's birthday and finally to see my dad's new car! This weekend for church is fun because we get together all the members in Omaha and have two meetings, one saturday night and one sunday morning. That means they bring in big shots to speak, I get to say hello to some of my medical school professors, and I get to catch up with friends that live in other parts of the city. Fun stuff! Waiting for the meeting to start is also fun because you get to people watch :) The girls of my family growing up used to say that we loved watching the fashion as people walked to the front of the church for communion on Sundays. yup. Still love that. Since we were spending our Saturday night at church, we decided to spoil ourselves with dinner out. We grabbed Raising Cane's with friends before the meeting and (with the same friends) stopped for Orange Leaf afterwards. yum.
Have a fabulous week!
xo,
Krista
