This week..

-- I've been all-smiles at the communication I get from the kids. Elle has a new phrase "how could my say no?" accompanied by the cutest inflection! She says this most often when you offer her dessert. Callum is also communicating extremely well for having so few words. He will gesture multi-step requests (gestures firmly to his chest, your chest, the bedroom, then spins his hand in circles = let's go to my room and turn on my ceiling fan). Because he often communicates so well, he also has moments where he is royally frustrated that we aren't understanding. I have a feeling it will be loud in this house once both kids are talking! Elle continues to demand we watch her impromptu, ad-libbed performances. They still have many references to the State Fair and Rodeo with imaginary roping and tricks with fire. Cal also has a good ear for music - he started clapping and stomping when "If You're Happy and You Know It" started playing. He was also stomping enthusiastically when "The Ants Go Marching". I suspect he's danced to these songs at daycare. But he is a quick learner! This weekend I've carried a swaddle blanket with us to wipe the impressive amount of snot that comes out of his head. Tonight, I draped it on the back of his chair while we colored. He sneezed, turned and took the rag to dab his (surprisingly clean) face, then grunted for me to help him as the blanket wouldn't balance back on his chair like it was previously. He is also the best kid at cleaning up his activities and taking wrappers to the trash. This kid will stop what he is doing and walk 40 tiny toddler leg steps to throw away even the smallest of items he spots on the carpet. Elle is slowly learning the alphabet at school. She has doodled pretend party invitations for a long time, but now she wants you to remind her how to write each letter of whatever she wants to title it. The first few letters of the alphabet she recalled without prompting and then she asked me to trace them in the air so she could copy the others. Now tonight we have a house full of colds that are suspicious for COVID. I suppose I would rather we have it now while we can still enjoy playing in our backyard then if it were the middle of winter! There is WAY too much energy in these kids to keep them locked inside!
