SI-- WEEK SIX

I don't remember if I've told you yet, but this month I am working with the Pediatrics Infectious Disease consult team in town. When are we consulted? We are often asked to see a patient if (a) the primary team is concerned about a weird infection that they are unsure how to test for (b) the primary team would like recommendations about which antibiotic they should use to treat a confirmed infection (c) the primary team would like recommendations on an antibiotic for empiric treatment (d) or the primary team would like a suggestion for length of treatment. I picked this rotation as my elective for the year so that I can (hopefully!) get a better grasp on the complicated world of antibiotics. We spend the majority of our time at Children's Hospital but we also often have patients at UNMC. We receive consults from all hospitals in town and we also take calls from providers in any of the surrounding states. The workday is very different from other rotations - it's interesting to experience a different style.
I spend the majority of my day rocking
these disposable gowns over my white coat
This past Wednesday we snagged a rare opportunity - family dinner with the whole family present! S was about to leave to go back to Spokane, R was back from NYC on his way to Lincoln, and E and I were.. well, here. We should have snagged a group picture - whoops! But here is a good one with some of the crowd:

I remember laughing (a lot!) at this dinner. Dad, Gma, and I shared many giggles over my obnoxious hiccups. Then Mom, S and I lost it looking at old pictures:

Most of the laughs were at my expense. S thinks I was a ridiculous child because I wore a pencil skirt + blazer combo for Easter as a child. What-evs. I like this picture of me teaching R one of my computer games. I believe that was the Bernstein Bear game on 8 inch floppy disk:

The last few family dinners I've brought a new flavor of homemade ice cream to share. This week was salted carmel + dark chocolate chunks. E has been making scrumptious smash potatoes that he learned to make from Dario's Brassiere. so good.

Then after dinner we played outside until it began to rain too hard:

Families are the best! T and I have a busy week with lots of evening commitments. He is also placing his lovely Chevy Lumina up for sale this week. Wish him luck!

xo,
Krista
