SI-- WEEK THREE

I've been having a lot of fun on my pediatrics rotation. This week I also rounded on the newborns which is awesome. Half of my week was spent in classes learning how to take care of complications that arise during childbirth including resuscitating neonates. We acted scenarios of post-partum hemorrhage, shoulder dystocias, and breech deliveries. In the other class we walked through intubating a neonate, chest compression, umbilical venous catheters etc. All that information you hope you never need but are glad you know when you need it! We also played a lot this week.. we had friends over for a BBQ this weekend, played pickleball with my family, walked through Street of Dreams, did some shopping, and rented a good action movie.

However, the highlight of my weekend was seeing this guy experience one of his dreams:

Let's start at the beginning...

This is the flight that I bought T for his MBA graduation gift. He took a few weeks of "ground school" and then for one reason or another, had to keep postponing his "discovery flight". Thankfully this past Saturday he was able to get in the air! The day started with some information on the logistics about getting your private pilot license. Then the fun started:

Pre-flight inspection:

It was a tiny plane!

It was beautiful outside - so I just parked it on a bench on the runway and studied for a bit while he was out of sight.

T took these pictures while in the air (maybe you'll recognize some landmarks!):

Nebraska State Capitol Building
Memorial Stadium
So how did he do? Well, see for yourself! His taxiing was less-than-thrilling.. (he said this was the most difficult part!)

But he did the take-off like a pro!

T is definitely interested in getting his license. Now it is time to crunch numbers to see if it's something we could afford now (which would be awesome timing for him to spend the time training since my schedule is still so busy and we don't have kiddos!) or if we should wait until that mound of suffocating debt is gone. We shall see!

This coming week will be another good mix of work and play! Maybe the following week I'll get back to work hard core :)

xo,

Krista
