M3-- WEEK TWENTY

This past week I was back at Children's Hospital working on the 5th floor. The floors are sorted by age but also by type of disease. The majority of the patients I cared for on the 5th floor were kids that were in the process of a series of cardiac surgeries. A few of the kiddos were ones that I had taken care of the PICU and had "graduated" to the floor! I spent my week reviewing diagrams this this trying to keep the many surgeries straight:

I love cardiology. If I wasn't concerned with getting through my training and having babies, I would most likely be a pediatric cardiologist. I love studying the physiology and looking at the angiograms. It's super interesting!

But anyway...

I started this week super stressed. I'm having a hard time staying in the moment and enjoying where I'm at. I keep feeling like I need to have the next few years all planned out. I just couldn't chill out. Plus, I always get nervous before starting a new rotation. Things are always much better once I'm there and have a little bit of an idea what is expected of me :) Thankfully my stress level decreased drastically throughout the week and I'm not nearly as anxious as I was last Sunday night!

I did sneak in a few fun things outside of the hospital this week: A friend in the neighborhood had a bunch of girls over one evening for dessert and wassail (delish!).. we watched the Husker game at my parent's house.. Saturday morning I had an awesome women's activity at church.. we had dinner with T's Mom tonight.. Overall it was a good week!

This next week I'll be working on the 4th floor at Children's. It will be another week of early mornings and Friday night call but with a few more lectures mixed in. I am going to do my best to quit thinking about next year or residency throughout the week and just stay focused on this year. I have a lot of studying I need to do for this rotation - so that will be my goal this week! If I can accomplish that goal, maybe I'll treat myself with a trip to the new outlet mall for work clothes ;)

Enjoy your week!

Krista
