M3-- WEEK SIX

This week was a week of good food! I spent the week rotating with Otolaryngology and due to staff being on vacation we had a lighter load. [Although there was less going on, I got to spend a majority of my week with kids and I also worked at the VA for the first time. So it was pretty awesome.] Monday I met T at Petrow's for lunch, Tuesday I ate at Petrow's with some residents I was working with, Wednesday it was loaded baked potato bar at the Cafeteria (a personal fav of mine), Thursday we had dinner with friends, and Friday I had lunch at El Ray with another group of residents.

Thursday D and I just happened to leave the hospital at the same time so we ran to the store and had a taco night! I also tried my first (virgin) Moscow mule- yum! We love our friends that love good food as much as we do!
Friday evening T and I were able to visit a friend who needs some help preparing for her kids' baptisms. We love when we have opportunities to help others- especially when we can do it together!

This week we also spent time working on the old, trusty (well.. usually trusty) Lumina. We have been struggling with the back brakes for a couple weeks now- but thankfully that project is almost done. At least the weather was gorgeous to be outside!

The most stressful day of the week was Saturday. No.. I wasn't working.. I was just naive and thought I could swing by the mall and quickly find a new pair of black dress pants. uggghhhhh. The one time that I would have loved help shopping there were no sales associates available. I started at two less expensive stores before striking out and moving to the pricey store. Fine. Whatever. I'll definitely get my use out of these pants. Then at the spendy store I caught on that there were two main styles of pants.. however, it took a while to figure out that within those two styles were still multiple cuts, fabrics, and lengths. It was ridiculous. I finally found a pair and called it good. But that was way too much work! I still can't wear them until I get them hemmed..

I did have success upgrading my shoes! The less-expensive flats I've been sporting are starting to fall apart. So, I figured I should pick up a higher quality pair before my others are completely shot (that way I still have a few pairs for when I want options):

My new kicks

I've put off buying any new dress clothes or shoes this year until I spent some time on rotations to see what I really needed. For example, I found that although I love my pencil skirts- they don't usually allow me enough length in my stride to book it around the hospital. I also found that heels are okay for 10-12 hours but after that I end up with blisters. Unfortunately, the length of my dress pants are hemmed for heels.. so I either need to sacrifice a few for when I wear flats or purchase some new pairs. I've also realized that although I have few dressy tops, my white coat completely covers what I'm wearing so I can get away with wearing almost anything. Unfortunately, the cute cardigans I wore the last few years in the pediatrics clinic (sans white coat) are not visible under the white coat. They were too warm for layer under the white coat anyway. But this will all be different in two weeks when I'm spending the majority of my time in clinic!

Men sure have it easy when it comes to dress clothes!

This week will be busier for me than last week (fun-busy) as I rotate with the Head & Neck team. It will also be a little more stressful as my exams approach. T and I will continue to work on figuring out how to function with this new normal!

Have a great week!

xo,
Krista

PS: Here is a (crummy, end-of-the-day in my messy office/closet) picture in scrubs for you Mom!
