This week..
— Elle graduated level one swim lessons! She started the lessons with a fear of getting her face wet and zero swim skills. She now will spend a whole evening at the pool submerging herself and she thinks her couple freestyle strokes are on-par with Olympic swimmers. Cal, on the other hand, simply sat on the pool steps and slowly shook his head no at any attempt to engage with the lifeguard.
— we went back to Omaha for my brother’s art show. It was a fun show and an even better family reunion! We took the excuse to reserve a hotel in the Old Market and extended the fun. We took the kids to Ted and Wally’s, ate Voodoo Tacos, and loved our first trip to Luminarium. The kids also loved the play structures out front but the humidity was miserable so we didn’t last long. Travel still has some miserable moments (it’s a lot of energy trapped in one room for bedtime!) but we are loving our kid’s ages for exploring!
— Cal was in our bathtub when suddenly water started pouring out of the living room ceiling and can light. T panicked to find the source fearing we may have a plumbing issue and house fire. Thankfully, we must have an unsealed spot in the tile under the tub and the water was only from Cal sending too much water overboard. The whole ordeal really scared Elle who ran to her room in tears after completing her tasks from Dad “turn off the lights! Grab a towel!” She asked multiple times that night “Mom, could we really have had a fire if I didn’t turn off the lights?!” She’s such a sweet soul.
— Cal continues to narrate his life in spontaneous song “brushing my hair. Brushing my hair. Brushing my hair to look cool.” He and Elle fight over “who knows more”. Today Elle challenged him “do you even know the S word?! See. I know more than you.” She means stupid. Ha!
— finding clothes for Elle continues to be miserable for all involved. She is very opinionated on her style but is confident she knows what she doesn’t like without trying anything on. We’ve let her ask for just about any specific clothing item and then once it comes in the mail, she refuses to wear it. She would really like to wear long pants or micro shorts. Her reason for the pants - there is more fabric so there is more color. However, it’s almost 100 degrees this week and she spends a good portion of the day outdoors. She does have a favorite pink and blue tie-dye Nike shirt and light blue bicycle shorts that we may just need to buy in bulk! Oh! And she is certain she wants to legally change her name to Rosalina.

Krista
