I have so many fun things I could chat about.. but unfortunately a quick nap this afternoon sounds more appealing. :) I just finished a 28ish hour shift at the VA with the internal medicine team. Overall, it was a pretty simple overnight shift. There are just a few things I'll do differently next week:
(1) I'll pack myself lunch & dinner & breakfast! This month at the VA I get a card loaded with credit for the cafeteria. (Lunch money is probably my favorite perk of my program!) The one flaw in the plan this weekend was that the VA's cafeteria is closed on weekends. Whoops! They did have a convenience store open for a few hours on Saturday so I stocked up on canned stew, canned chili, crackers, beef jerky, and chocolate. Total sodium load!
(2) I'll save my work on the computer more often. At about 2am the computer system rebooted hospital-wide and the admission documentation I'd been working on for the past hour or so was completely lost. I was seriously 7 seconds away from being finished and off to grab a couple hours of sleep. Super frustrating! Thankfully, the system was only down for about 5-10 minutes and I could remember most of the information I had just dug through the chart to find.
This one is for the moms & grandmas! (Notice I was repping the Husker tee under my white coat this weekend) |
Enough about work - how about a few pictures from Labor Day! We kept our Labor Day open without plans and ended up spending the day outside at my parent's house. The weather was beautiful. It sure didn't feel like September 1! My mom snagged some pictures as T and I playing Polish Horseshoes after we ran to the hardware store on a total impulse spree to buy the PVC pipe and glass bottles to play. Unfortunately, the store was a total zoo and they were out of cream soda. Poor T was forced to drink diet orange sodas since he didn't dare let me waste it. If you know T, you know how much he despises diet pop..
We also helped my parents move their old TV out of the basement and bring in a new & improved one! I thought I'd throw these pictures on the blog so I have a sliver of a record of old-school TVs. Moving the old TV up the stairs was quite the production as it was heavy. I think the set was like 50"x50"x21". I was impressed we could fit all of us adults in the stairwell at the same time to lift it! I have to admit.. the physician in me was also worried about the old men doing such strenuous work..
I'll leave off here because the dinner my friend brought over to spoil me is calling my name. I seriously have the best friends ever! They knew I was post-call and home alone and insisted they feed me. After the junk I ate all weekend, there was no way I was turning this down:
No, I will not share that homemade peach bread in the corner. Sorry! |
T spent the weekend in Houston to celebrate his Uncle's birthday and he promises a post full of awesome pictures soon.. so get excited! Have a great week!
xo,
Krista
PS- I got another super sweet note -- this time from a patient's family. It was a great reminder to me that I should take the time to write more notes to all the wonderful people in my life!
*patient identification was removed* And no, I am not yet Dr., and I never introduce myself as such |
